Twitter, a microblogging platform, has finally removed the Legacy verification tick from a number of well-known people.

The business had made hints about wanting to market verification tick for a while.

Twitter reportedly removed the Legacy Blue Tick for famous people on Thursday.

Checks on the Twitter accounts of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming president; Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate; Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States; and Tony Elumelu, the chairman of UBA PLC, revealed that the verification tick had been removed.

Three hundred thousand verified users who did not pay for the Blue Tick were impacted by the change, including many famous athletes, musicians, journalists, and other public figures.

Tweeters’ responses:

@TonyOElumelu:
I woke up to see that my verification tick had disappeared. Wahala!”, he lamented.

@torty_mercy:
Make I hear Okwute pays for Twitter Blue $8 that you will give someone as a happy holiday gift, and the person will appreciate it greatly, Okwute will now give to Billionaire for blue tick??? We are allergic to spending money wrongly.

“Elon Musk has removed the legacy verification of over 400K notable persons. Peter Obi, Atiku, Tinubu, Hillary Clinton & Donald Trump lost their blue check marks. Is Elon from this planet? Only an alien can compel Heads of Government & Former Presidents to pay for Twitter Blue.

After Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover of Twitter, the platform witnessed drastic changes geared towards boosting its revenue.

To this end, the company said, “Twitter Blue is an opt-in, paid subscription that adds a blue checkmark to your account and offers early access to select features, like Edit Tweet. Subscribe now with localized pricing starting at $8/month or $84/year in available countries to get the blue checkmark and early access to features”.
