Two kidnappers give up to hunters in Taraba, vow to battle crimes

Two kidnappers, Gayya Alhaji Abdu (20) and Siyyo Alhaji Amadu (21), have turned themselves in and confessed their involvement in kidnapping actions in Taraba State.

Assembly with native hunter leaders, they expressed regret and declared their intention to desert their legal previous.

Gayya recounted his journey into kidnapping, stating that he was pushed by worry after discovering he was listed as a suspect. Fearing for his life, he sought refuge with a pal already affiliated with a kidnapping gang working across the Jalingo, Kona, and Lankabiri mountains.

He described the horrors he witnessed, together with the mistreatment of victims, as his main motivation for repentance.

Equally, Amadu admitted to becoming a member of a kidnapping gang within the Mayo-Renewo space of Ardo-Kola council.

Regardless of his involvement in a number of abduction incidents, he realized the gravity of his actions and determined to show his life round.

Babangida Kwamando, chief of the native hunters’ affiliation, welcomed the repentant people, affirming the affiliation’s stance on rehabilitation.

He emphasised their dedication to offering a path for former criminals to reintegrate into society.

Kwamando defined that repentant criminals endure a solemn oath on the Holy Qur’an, pledging to abstain from unlawful actions earlier than being accepted into the hunters’ affiliation.

The choice by Gayya and Amadu to surrender their legal previous and be a part of the battle in opposition to banditry and kidnapping, he stated, sends a hopeful message to communities grappling with insecurity within the State.
