GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday paid a condolence visit to families of some of the policemen killed at police checkpoints on Wednesday.
Recall that unidentified gunmen attacked police checkpoints located at Obeagu-Uno along Amechi-Obeagu Uno-Amodu-Umueze road in the Enugu South Local Government Area and killed about five policemen and a passersby.
Ugwuanyi, who visited two slain cops families – late Inspectors Timothy Tion and Emeka Nnaji – described the attack as callous.
Ugwuanyi offered automatic employment to the wives of the deceased and paid three months salaries of their late husbands, as well as other cash donations.
A statement by the Governor’s Special Assistant on Media, Louis Amoke, said the “condolence package is applicable to wives of other affected officers.”
He said the spouses of the slain policemen also have the option of scholarship for their children to secondary school level in place of automatic employment.

Meanwhile, the Enugu command, said it had commenced a manhunt for the hoodlums, promising that they would not go unpunished.
The command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said the command would not leave any stone unturned.
