We’re ready to discuss with Nigerian Government – Twitter
AMERICAN microblogging platform, Twitter, says it has informed the Nigerian government of its willingness to meet over the suspension placed on its platform in the country.
The Federal Government had last Friday indefinitely halted Twitter’s operation in the country on the basis that the platform is being used to threaten the country’s cooperate existence.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who had announced the suspension, on Wednesday, told newsmen that Twitter’s management is seeking a “high-level discussion” to resolve the issue that led to the suspension.
Twitter, however, confirmed that it is ready for negotiations in a tweet today.
“Today marks one week since Twitter was blocked in Nigeria. We have informed the Nigerian government that we are ready to meet for an open discussion to address mutual concerns and see the service restored. We remain advocates for the free and #OpenInternet everywhere. #KeepitOn,” it write.
Among others, the FG is seeking that the social networking app registers as a business interest in Nigeria and pay taxes.
