The American International School in Abuja has confirmed the refund of $760,000 paid in advance by the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for his children.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on Friday announced the receipt of the refund of $760,000 paid as advanced school fees by the former governor, according to the spokesperson for the agency, Dele Oyewale.

Subsequently the Head of the school, Greg Hughes, in a statement on Saturday said, “Contrary to some media reports suggesting that the institution was still in the process of turning over the funds, the school clarified that it had actually done so, as recently confirmed by the EFCC Chairman.”

“Our compliance to remit these funds underscores our commitment to upholding institutional integrity and our respect for the national institutions of Nigeria

“Upon learning that the school fees we accepted in good faith were, in fact, part of an ongoing case with the EFCC, we turned over these funds in compliance with this federal commission’s request,” Hughes explained.

On the current matter between Bello and the EFCC, the school further said that “we will refrain from making any further comments at this time.”
