President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to embrace accountability in all forms, particularly financial discipline and the active promotion of top-level women and youth participation in the party’s day-to-day operations.
He stated that this would strengthen the APC and solidify its position as the ruling party.

The President made this charge on Wednesday at the State House Conference Centre during the party’s National Caucus meeting.

Tinubu said in a statement to journalists by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, that the party’s future belongs to Nigeria’s young people and women, citing their demonstrated dedication and electoral prowess.

“As a party, we must manage our finances very well,” said the APC’s national leader. I am hopeful that the financial audit recommended by the National Working Committee (NWC) will assist us in strengthening our finances. I thank our governors for their generous contributions to the party’s coffers. These are trying times. We are being tested. Please continue to lend your support to the party.

“Our party also needs to be more gender inclusive, and we need more youth participation because they own our future.” Let’s engage more young people and women. They are devoted election masters.”

While informing the party leaders present, which included the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, former National Chairmen, Bisi Akande and John Oyegun, as well as serving governors, former governors, and National Assembly members, the President detailed the decisions he has made so far to reform the country’s economy.
Tinubu stated once more that Nigeria cannot continue to support the treasury-depleting fuel subsidy and losses incurred by the previous foreign exchange management regime.

“We can’t keep playing poker with our economy.” That is why I have made the decisions I have,” he explained.

Acting APC National Chairman Senator Abubakar Kyari commended President Tinubu for the steps he has taken so far to reposition the economy for greater productivity and future prosperity in his welcome address.

The Acting National Chairman addressed the National Caucus with two memos: the appointment of external auditors and the filling of vacant party offices.

The Caucus considered the National Chairmanship and National Secretary seats, which will be filled by the National Executive Council (NEC) at its next scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
