President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he did not favour one candidate over the others in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for president.
The President stated that after failing to lead the nation three times before finally succeeding on his fourth attempt through a democratic process, he had learned from his mistakes.
According to Buhari, the reason for his refusal to endorse a particular candidate is because he “contested the presidential election three times and ended up at the Supreme Court without success, only to succeed the fourth time through a democratic process.”
The 2023 Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture was held in Lafia and featured remarks from the President. It was organised by the government of Nasarawa State in collaboration with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.
Ibrahim Gambari, his chief of staff, spoke on his behalf and urged Nigerians to accept the results of the election in 2023.
He also urged the dissatisfied applicants to take their complaints to court.
According to him, Ahmadu Bello remained steadfast in his support of Nigeria’s progress, peace, and unity until his passing.
The President pleaded with Nigerians to embrace his acts of selflessness and his legacy.
