On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, visited Abdullahi Ganduje, the new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, at his private residence in Abuja to show his support.
Wike, one of President Bola Tinubu’s 45 ministers-designate, was seen posing with Ganduje in pictures that went viral.
Some of Wike’s supporters and leaders of the PDP in Rivers State may also be seen in the pictures, stoking speculation of a potential switch to the ruling APC.
Ganduje was seen entering the party secretariat at around 2.35 pm, hours after hosting the minister-designate and his group.
Top PDP leaders have recently made fruitless attempts to get Wike ejected from the party due to his allegedly anti-party activities.
There were no recorded specifics of their meeting behind closed doors as of the time this article was filed.
The national publicity secretary of the ruling party did not respond when attempts were made to contact her.
Although Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s director of publicity, didn’t find anything wrong with the visit, others may disagree.
“You can see from what the national chairman stated yesterday (at the gathering of former deputy governors) that he wants to improve the party’s fortune, which is an oblique way of stating he is not ruling any option out.
He wants to ensure that the party keeps getting stronger. He arrived to boost the party’s victories, especially in light of the recent sporadic (off-season) gubernatorial elections that have taken place in some states.
