A yet-to-be-identified woman in a Nissan car was, on Friday, killed when a fully loaded 40-foot Mack articulated truck fell on the car at the Alapere, Ogudu axis in Lagos.

However, the driver of the car with the number ABJ 692 BG survived unhurt with support from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials at NNPC inward the Estate area.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq, the driver of the truck and his motor-boy fled immediately after the fatal accident occurred.

He said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of Mack articulated 40ft fully-loaded container, while on a high speed, lost control as a result of a brake failure and rammed into a moving Nissan car in motion.

“LASTMA Alabi Olukayode (Zone 2, Ogudu/Alapere) disclosed that the agency handed over the evacuated dead body (woman) to policemen from the Alapere police station.

“LASTMA officials and passers-by, including the LASEMA response unit, were involved in the rescue operations. Other emergency responders at the scene of the fatal accident include the Lagos State Ambulance Service, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the police.

“Also at the accident scene were the LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki; LASTMA Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance, Mr Hakeem Adeosun, and the LASTMA rescue team.”

Oki warned the motoring public, particularly truck drivers, to avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are properly checked before embarking on any journey within or outside the state.
