Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, over the eviction notice issued to herdsmen.

Sunday Igboho had arrived Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday to force herdsmen accused of criminal activities out of the area.

He had given the herdsmen one week to leave.

Two persons were feared dead in the clash between his supporters and herdsmen.

However, BBC Hausa quoted presidential spokesman Garba Shehu as confirming the arrest order during its programme Ra’ii Riga on Friday.

Shehu was quoted as saying they were facing difficulties in prosecuting the perpetrators due to the interference of human rights groups by the government.

He added that the current order of the police boss was to arrest Sunday Igboho, take him to Abuja and charge him in court.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had also given the new commissioner of police in the state Ngozi Onadeko same mandate.

“For people stoking ethnic tension, they are criminals and once you get them, they should be arrested and treated like common criminals,” he said on Friday.
