In Ibadan, Oyo State, a petrol tanker collided with Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s convoy, killing Ibrahim Hussaini, a police outrider.
Akpabio, who revealed the information in plenary on Tuesday, said that the tragic incident happened while he was visiting Oyo State to install another senator as chieftain.
The Senate President described the incident, saying that it happened on Sunday just after his convoy picked him up from the airport and that the rider’s head was broken.
He offered his sympathies to the deceased officer’s family and pledged to provide work for two of Hussaini’s older children.
“We traveled to Oyo State to install our colleague,” he stated. Sadly, a tanker driver ran over my dispatch rider, shattering his head. He was buried in Kogi State fifteen minutes ago. Four children and two wives were left behind.
“By God’s grace, I’m recommending two of his older children for employment right away in any parastatals that may want to; if not, I’ll hire them myself for any of my private concerns.”
According to Akpabio, the officer was buried in Kogi State and left behind four children and two wives.
In order to properly bring the issue before the Senate, Sunday Karimi, the senator from Kogi West, made a motion for personal explanation after the announcement.
Hussaini was a Deputy Superintendent of Police, according to Karimi, and he was anticipated to retire the next year. He continued by saying that since Akpabio took office as Senate President in 2023, the Kogi State-born officer has been a member of his security detail.
For the deceased officer, the parliamentarians conducted a minute of silence.
