E-Transmission: ‘What Are You Afraid Of?’ — Amaechi Blasts APC Over 31 Governors Claim

Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, has urged opposition members to publicly oppose the Senate’s decision to reject the need that election results be transmitted electronically.

Amaechi reportedly participated in Tuesday morning’s demonstration at the National Assembly.

Speaking to reporters, he charged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was obstructing the broadcast because it was worried about losing the next election.

Amaechi stated that opposition parties need to band together and stand firmly against what he called a single party’s attempt to control the election process.

Amaechi stated, “I think the opposition parties, PDP, ADC, everyone should be out to protest against the attempt of one party.”

He questioned the APC’s own activities and rejected allegations that opposition groups may take control of such protests.

“What is the APC doing if we show up and they claim the opposition has taken over the demonstration? Do they not engage in hijacking? What fears do they have? I believed they claimed to have thirty-one governors. Jonathan is not Tinubu. “The people are the only way for a good politician to know that he has done well,” he remarked.

Amaechi also questioned why, in spite of boasting of many governors and prominent opposition party defections to its cause, the ruling party would feel threatened.

He also emphasized that opposition parties and civil society organizations will keep pushing back until the ruling is overturned, expressing doubt that either President Bola Tinubu or Senate President Godswill Akpabio would address the concerns of Nigerians.
