Grassroots Mobilization Is Crucial for Electoral Success – Nenadi Usman

Senator Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party’s Interim National Chairman, has emphasized that grassroots mobilization is essential to electoral success and urged political parties to increase their base of support at the grassroots level in order to improve the credibility of elections.

Speaking about the Electoral Act 2026 at a town hall gathering in Abuja, Usman stated that a political party’s presence and readiness at the polling place determine whether it succeeds or fails.

Although she praised lawmakers for allowing results to be transmitted electronically to INEC’s IReV portal, she pointed out that the debate around Section 60(3) has been overblown.
She emphasized that in order to safeguard votes and guarantee accurate results, parties should use agents who have received proper training.

Instead of depending only on INEC, Usman advised parties to fortify their own structures and carry out their duties with diligence.

Party rules shall be followed in accordance with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires candidate nominations through consensus or direct primaries.

“Nigerians’ collective resolve and vigilance, not just statutory provisions or institutional mechanisms, will determine the credibility of the 2027 elections,” she stated.
