Hungry Nigerians Cannot Reason, Give Them Bread’ – Yesufu Tells Opposition Ahead of 2027 Poll

In front of the 2027 general elections, social activist Aisha Yesufu has called on opposition leaders Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to implement pragmatic campaign tactics that tackle the economic realities that many Nigerians face.

In a post on her 𝕏 (previously Twitter) account on Thursday, Yesufu offered the advise, emphasizing that many residents have been compelled to put survival ahead of political rhetoric due to the nation’s deepening economic woes.

The activist claims that pervasive poverty has greatly impacted how people react to political ideas, making urgent assistance and financial support more vital to many voters.

She maintained that many Nigerians are finding it difficult to satisfy their basic necessities due to the current economic climate, especially in light of the rising cost of food.

Yesufu claimed that measures that had, in her opinion, deprived citizens of their financial capacity had made the issue worse.

“Citizens were purposefully made poor, with money taken out of their pockets and food made expensive so that small tokens would matter to them,” she wrote.

The activist also counseled opposition parties to craft campaign messaging that speaks to Nigerians’ everyday hardships.

She claims that in order to win over voters, political actors need to be aware of the pressing issues that residents face.

“The opposition needs to reach out to the public in a language that they can comprehend as we approach the 2027 election,” she continued.

Yesufu recommended that in order to successfully engage voters, political campaigns should incorporate both policy messaging and practical help.

Give bread with your photo on it to people in need. Give policy documents with your photo on them to people who need them, she advised.

Yesufu also highlighted the psychological and social effects of hunger on residents, pointing out that people who are having trouble meeting their basic requirements could find it hard to concentrate on political or policy discussions.

“A man or woman who is hungry cannot think well. All he or she wants is for their stomach to quit growling, she wrote.
