The All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 National Convention will take place in Eagle Square in Abuja. On Friday morning, the venue was humming with activity as last-minute preparations were finished in front of the event, which is set to begin on March 27.
The party’s colors—red, green, white, and blue—have been used to decorate the area as organizers complete the stage and other amenities in preparation for the event.
The location is covered in party flags, which are flying in the bright yet windy morning air.
Additionally, voting areas have been set up, and pavilions for delegates from each federation state have been properly marked.
APC authorities predict that about 8,000 delegates from the Federal Capital Territory and the 36 states would attend the conference.
Along with 31 state governors and members of the Federal Executive Council, President Bola Tinubu will lead the delegation.
To ensure safety, security personnel from various agencies, such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were positioned across the venue.
Every route that led to Eagle Square was blocked off and subject to strict security.
Many people of the Federal Capital Territory were forced to walk to their places of employment due to the diversion of traffic in the area.
Additionally, members of the Convention Venue Committee, which was presided over by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, were observed examining venue preparations.
In order to show unity and internal cohesiveness, the ruling party has stated that it will choose officials during the convention by consensus.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, described the two-day event’s goals and expectations during a press briefing on Thursday.
The convention’s Media and Publicity Committee Co-Chairman, Idris, stated that the party was ready for the exercise.
The publicity committee members were urged by the minister to cooperate in order to guarantee efficient communication during the conference.
“In keeping with the party’s vision for a unified and disciplined approach to communicating with Nigerians, a lot of sacrifice is expected from all,” he stated.
Internal democratic values must be upheld by party members, he also emphasized.
“As party members, we need to emulate a key quality of our president,” Idris stated.
He claims that the convention is a significant turning point in the party’s efforts to fortify its internal systems and democratic procedures.
