NDLEA Seizes 156,575 Tramadol Pills Across Five States and FCT in Two Weeks

In the past two weeks, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has reportedly confiscated at least 156,575 tramadol pills and other illegal substances in five states as well as the Federal Capital.

Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Lagos, and Ogun are the states mentioned by NDLEA spokesman Mr. Femi Babafemi in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. He said that Abdulrazak Bala and Lawal Salisu were the two suspects from whom at least 156,380 pieces of the pills were taken.

He claims that on Saturday, July 29, two alleged drug dealers were apprehended in the Federal Capital Territory on the Gwagwalada-Abaji Highway. He continued by saying that on Thursday, July 26, NDLEA agents discovered a “Skuchies” factory in Sagamu, Ogun, where Femi Isiaka was taken into custody.

37 kg of Indian hemp, 195 Tramadol tablets, 5,000 Diazepam tablets, and 216 Rophynol tablets were recovered from the factory.

One industrial cooker, four refrigerators, four gas cylinders, and 204 liters of “skuchies” were also found.

“On Tuesday, July 25, a container load of nitrous oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, was seized at the Apapa seaport in Lagos, linked to a 30-year-old businessman, Stephen Eze,” Babafemi said.

“On July 13, two containers of laughing gas that the suspect had smuggled from China were found at the Apapa Port.

Babafemi continued, “The third shipment was intercepted during a joint examination of the container marked SUDU7431605 containing 8,336 canisters of nitrous oxide and pressure release nozzles.”

He added that two suspects, Francis Diamond (age 26) and Adekunle Damilola (age 26), were detained in Ondo State’s Ita-Ogbolu Forest while in possession of 247.5 kg of Indian hemp.

A Volkswagen Golf Car carrying 308 kg of Indian hemp was stopped at Airport Junction on Akure-Ogbese Road on Wednesday, July 26, according to the NDLEA spokesperson, and a suspect, Farouk Umar (38), was taken into custody.

On Saturday, July 29, a 32-year-old suspect named Chukwuma Nnaji was taken into custody in a warehouse at Onuogba Eke in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Enugu State together with 47 kg of “Skunk.”

During the raid, a prison shop yielded twelve kg of the same material.

“In Uli town in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra, a grandfather named Boniface Ogwurlobi (62) and a man named Chimezie Onyenjuru were apprehended with 49.415 kg of Indian hemp, 127.7g of methamphetamine, and 15g of cocaine.

On Friday, July 28, this occurred during a raid.

Additionally, three suspects—Olasande Olutosin, Oleh Chiagozie, and Obamuro Baiyeri—who had been detained with 2,608.3 kg of Indian hemp were surrendered to the NDLEA by members of the Nigerian Army’s 9 Brigade.

“On Tuesday, July 25, they also stopped the truck transporting the material to the NDLEA’s Lagos State Command,” Babafemi said.
