Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, has stated that he is willing to work with other governors in the Southeast to improve the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus.
On Tuesday, Ukoha Njoku, the governor’s chief press secretary, made this revelation.
At a South East Law Development Initiative meeting at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti made the commitment in response to concerns expressed about the condition of the Enugu campus’s infrastructure.
Emeka Ngige (SAN), the group’s coordinator and chairman of the Council of Legal Education, had made a request for intervention, pointing out that parts of the institution’s facilities were in bad shape.
In response, Otti urged a coordinated regional effort and requested that a formal request be made to the South East Governors’ Forum Chairman in order to facilitate wider participation.
He stated, “Write to the South East Governors’ Forum Chairman and copy me, so that I can engage my colleagues on possible collective intervention.”
The governor also took the chance to praise lawyers for their contributions to society, stating that they are essential to maintaining justice and defending the rights of the people.
“The common man’s hope would be dashed, regardless of how you slice and dice it, without the gentlemen of the bar, extending to the bench,” Otti remarked.
He emphasized that all citizens are impacted by governance decisions, regardless of their occupation, and he further encouraged professionals and attorneys to get involved in politics.
“We had no idea that the decisions made by politicians could have an impact on your fate,” he continued.
Otti pointed out that in order to improve leadership outcomes, professionals who do not depend on politics for survival should take the lead in governance.
The governor also reaffirmed the dedication of his administration to education, emphasizing continued initiatives to establish a cutting-edge law faculty at Abia State University in Uturu.
Members of the project promised to provide pro bono legal services to the state government and praised Otti’s infrastructure advancements.
