Former Labour Party Vice Presidential Candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed, has said that he is satisfied with what he has achieved in life and does not see holding the offices of president or vice president as a must for him.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ahmed narrates how he went into politics at a very young age and the progress he has made over the years.
He pointed out that he started his political career at a young age when he entered the House of Representatives at the age of 33.
He later said he rose in public service and became a senator at age 41.
Ahmed also mentioned his activities outside politics. He said he has received approval to set up two universities, which he called part of his efforts to promote education in the country.
In addition to education, he said he also made extensive investments in health care by establishing what he called the largest private-owned hospital in Africa. He said these accomplishments are among the milestones he is thankful for in his life.
“Over the years, many have come to me and shared with me their opinions about public office and success,” he said, according to reports. He said some suggested that one can still lead a fulfilled life without occupying top political positions.
He said: “Some people have come to my office to tell me that, ‘If you die without holding any political office, you are okay, thank your God’. And I am so happy and pleased with what God Almighty has allowed me to achieve in my very young age. At 33 House of Reps, at 41 Senate, then I got a university licence, and another university licence, the biggest private hospital in Africa and the list goes on and on. “Why do I have to be vice president or president?
