PDP Raises Alarm Over Jonathan’s Alleged 2027 Presidential Campaign Posters

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cautioned the general public to disregard campaign posters indicating former President Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential aspirant for the 2027 election on the platform of some political parties in the country.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP said Jonathan is still a bona fide and committed member of the party.

Photos of Jonathan, either alone or with other notable Nigerians as running mates, are circulating widely on social media platforms as fake, the statement said.

Ememobong quickly told members of the public that double registration is not only illegal under the electoral act but also punishable.

“The fake posters were circulated by mischief makers and we advise the public to ignore them,” he said.

Ememobong said Jonathan still reiterated his membership of the PDP during their meeting with him on Friday.

Campaign posters featuring photographs of President Goodluck Jonathan, either as a single candidate or alongside other prominent Nigerians as his running mate, have appeared and are being circulated widely on social media platforms.

These posters also incorrectly depict him as a member of the various political parties whose logos are on them.

We want to categorically state that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party under the able leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN. He registered himself properly in his ward during the just ended digital membership registration exercise, a fact he personally confirmed to members of the Interim National Working Committee during a meeting with him yesterday.

“This clarification is necessitated by the provisions of the extant Electoral Act which not only prohibits double registration but also makes it an offence.

“We know that mischief makers may not only design and circulate fake campaign posters, but may also, in concert with highly placed collaborators, attempt to input the details of President Jonathan and other prominent members of our party and the opposition movement into the databases of different political parties.

The PDP said in a statement, “We therefore put the public, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission, on notice of this malfeasance and urge them to discountenance any such fraudulent activity.”
