1. The House of Representatives has announced that it will vote on the constitutional amendment to enable the establishment of state and local police in the country as part of measures to tackle the rising insecurity in the country. Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Constitution Review, Benjamin Kalu, stated this at a media briefing shortly after the House plenary, saying the parliament has decided to give the issue of state police a priority attention over other bills.
2. A fire outbreak on Wednesday disrupted proceedings at the Senate wing of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. The lawmakers, staff and guests had to flee the building before things were brought under control. Witnesses said smoke suddenly billowed into the room from an adjoining kitchen section causing confusion as senators and guests rushed out before the sitting could be formally adjourned.
3. Senate orders arrest of NNPC GCEO over refusal to honour invitation The Senate has ordered the arrest of the former Group Chief Executive Officer, GCEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, over his alleged refusal to honour its invitation. The warrant was issued Wednesday by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.
4. Not less than two members of the bandits’ gang terrorising residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT have been shot dead. CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, FCT Commissioner of Police, who disclosed this to newsmen at the command on Wednesday, said he led the operation that resulted in their deaths.
5. The people of Iluke community in Bunu District of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State have called on the government to quickly intervene following an attack that claimed three lives, including a vice principal, by armed assailants. The attack, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday, has plunged the community into mourning and raised security concerns in the area.
6. The Federal Government has ordered for an investigation into how an aircraft landed and also took off on a highway in Ogwashi-Uku area near Asaba, the Delta State capital on Wednesday. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN) disclosed this in a post on X (Twitter).
7. The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has ordered political office holders who refused to decamp to the All Progressive Congress to resign or be sacked. This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou. “All political office holders serving in this administration that have publicly declared allegiance to or defected to other political parties should immediately resign their appointments,” Wonosikou said.
8. Troops of 82 Division Garrison working under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in conjunction with operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, Enugu State Command said they have uncovered a suspected arms cache belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN in Enugu State.
9. Yesterday, protesting former workers of the defunct Arab Bank and Assurance Bank took to the streets of Lagos to accuse regulatory authorities of systemic neglect and plunging them into acute poverty. The protest was held at the office of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate at the old Secretariat within the Tafawa Balewa Square premises, Lagos Island.
10. In the Niger State capital of Minna, school children on Wednesday abruptly ended school and ran home over fears of a bandit’s invasion of the state capital. The pupils and students reportedly took to their heels over fears that bandits may have invaded their schools without waiting for closing hours.
