Popular skit maker, actor, and social activist Debo Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has reaffirmed his decision to stay away from partisan politics, declaring that running for public office is not in his plans.
Despite persistent calls from fans and youth groups urging him to contest elections following his visible role in civic advocacy and youth movements, the content creator insists that holding political office is not the only way to drive meaningful change.
“I Can Serve Better from the Outside”
Speaking on the pressures to translate his widespread influence into a political career, Mr Macaroni emphasized that his primary commitment is to remain an independent voice for the people.
According to him, stepping into partisan politics often comes with systemic compromises that undermine an individual’s integrity and freedom to speak truth to power.
“You do not need to wear a political badge or occupy a public office before you can demand good governance or serve the people,” he stated. “My loyalty is to the everyday Nigerian, and I can advocate for accountability far more effectively from the outside.”
Why Partisan Politics Is Not on His Agenda
Highlighting the reasons behind his firm stance, the creative-turned-activist outlined key factors:
- Preserving Independence: Remaining non-partisan allows him to criticize and hold any government or political party accountable without bias or conflicting interests.
- Empowering the Citizenry: He believes the focus of nation-building should be on educating citizens about their constitutional rights, voter literacy, and holding elected leaders responsible.
- Maximizing Cultural Influence: Through satire, digital content, and grassroots advocacy, he reaches millions of youths faster and more authentically than traditional political platforms allow.
A Call for Active Citizenship
Rather than waiting for saviors in public office, Mr Macaroni reiterated that Nigeria’s progress relies on collective civic responsibility. He urged young Nigerians not to leave governance solely to politicians, but to consistently demand transparency, participate in electoral processes, and protect democratic values.
