Four persons have been rescued alive from under the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building located beside Cupid Hotel, Sultan Dansuki Road, Phase 2, Site 2, in Kubwa satellite town, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday.

The collapsed building, which was previously used as a hotel before it was converted to residential purpose, has 45 self-contained rooms.

LEADERSHIP reports that the officials of FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT Fire Service (FFS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), were on the ground trying to rescue other occupants of the building trapped under the rubble.

The acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs Florence Dawon Wenegieme, who was at the scene of the collapsed building, said that the agency was notified of the incident by passersby.

She said that they also received a distress call on the 112 emergency toll-free number at about 6.45am.

Wenegieme said the search and rescue efforts will continue until the last person is removed, if there is still anyone trapped in the rubble.

She further appealed to developers to follow strictly the building code and avoid the use of substandard materials.

Two of the rescued victims have been taken to the Kubwa General Hospital, while efforts were still ongoing to search for any other person that may be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
