Popular singer, Yemi Alade, has revealed how she navigates the entertainment industry without getting roped in its controversies.
The ‘Johnny’ crooner stated that she doesn’t allow people’s opinions get to her.
Speaking on the sideline of her new album, ‘Rebel Queen’ listening party in Lagos recently, Alade explained that she handles negative criticisms by simply ignoring them.
Yemi Alade said:
“I don’t think about it [negative criticisms] too much. I’m just living my life because it’s only one life I’ve.
“Once I see or hear anything that doesn’t resonate with me I look the other way and I keep it moving. Because everybody is entitled to their opinions.”
In March, Yemi Alade shut down viral reports of her being sexually harassed in the music industry.
Hours prior, an interview by Yemi Alade went viral where she revealed the reason she hardly wins an award in the Nigerian music industry is because men wanted to sleep with her. She further stated that her refusal to engage in such activities may have impacted her award recognition in Nigeria.
Yemi Alade expressed that a lot of times she is not nominated in award categories and that it largely has a lot to do with men.
She also stated her confusion that even though she is one of the most viewed and most subscribed Nigerian female artists on YouTube, she still constantly feels overlooked by the award shows.
Now taking to her Instagram story after the viral interview, Yemi Alade debunked such a report and questioned if bloggers have started creating false stories whenever they’re bored.
She said the report is “stupidity at its peak and unintelligent”, revealing that when she read the interview, she was speechless as she noted how she has suffered at the hands of rumor peddlers.
