The national president of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Muazu Maifata, has called for the withdrawal of protesters from streets across the country.

He made the call at a press conference at the Lafia local government secretariat yesterday.

The ALGON president said the ongoing protest was needless, especially since President Bola Tinubu is already addressing the issues advanced for the protest.

He said granting full autonomy to all the 774 local government areas in the country was enough to keep protesters off the streets.

He said that with autonomy, the standard of living will improve at the grassroots.

According to him, the president is already addressing the food shortage problem and ensuring food security through various measures.

He also said that the approval of the N70,000 minimum wage for civil servants was aimed at addressing the high cost of living in the country, among other interventions.

He noted that what the president needed at this point was support from all Nigerians in the ongoing bid to move the country on the path of development and growth.

The ALGON president pointed out that the nationwide protest posed a grave danger for the country and its nascent democracy, especially that it could be hijacked by anti-democratic elements to unleash mayhem across the country.

He urged stakeholders to prevail on the protesters to dialogue with the federal government on the way out of the anomaly.
