Suspected kidnapper arrested, 14 guns recovered in Anambra

The operatives of the Anambra State security outfit, “Agunechemba” have arrested a suspected kidnapper when the outfit raided a notorious criminal hideout at Enugwu-Agidi, in Njikoka Local Government Area of the State.

During the operation said to be carried out in the early hours of Thursday, no fewer than 14 guns of different brands were recovered by the operatives also called “Operation Udo Ga-Achi.”

TheNigerian Metro also gathered that a member of a suspected kidnapping syndicate was apprehended by the officers during the raid.

According to the information posted on one of their social media handles, the “Agunechemba” operatives invaded the area with other security outfits like the police, DSS, military and vigilantes.

The message further revealed that the items, which were recovered during the operation include two AK-47 rifles, eight pump action guns, four locally-made pistols, three packets of cartridges (101 cartridges), four empty magazines of AK-47 rifles, three cutlasses, one Baofeng radio, one motorcycle, and some charms.

The video of the exercise is currently trending on social media where the personnel and locals are celebrating the success of the operation.

Although the Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the development, as he said he had not been briefed about the exercise.

But a police source told journalists that the exercise was a joint operation led by the state police command based on intelligence gathering, adding that “Anambra must be free again. The governor has done much and he has given us the mandate to secure the state and that’s what we are doing. Those criminals must bow.”

Our correspondent who visited some major cities of the state, observed that the newly passed Anambra State Homeland Security Law had sent fears to hotel operators and landlords across the state.

In some communities such as Oba in Idemili South LGA and Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka LGA, some hotels have been sealed and others have been threatened to be sealed as a result of non-compliance with the law.

Some president-generals of communities were seen going around various hotels and other relaxation facilities to inform them about the new laws and threatening to sanction any of them who failed to comply.
