Barau Jibrin, the Senate’s deputy president, has underlined the importance of providing elected officials with governance training.
According to reports, Senator Jibrin claimed that the training provided to the members of the 4th National Assembly during the 1999 return to democratic administration was what kept the parliamentarians engaged and active.
This was said by the Deputy Senate President on Wednesday when he welcomed Lanre Adebayo, the Director General of The Progressives Institute (TPI), and his management team to his office.

He promised that TPI, which was founded by the present All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, will have Senate support in its mission to teach democracy to young Nigerians.
He said that the National Democratic Institute in America had invited the 4th republic’s parliamentarians for training, claiming that the instruction would equip them to manage the country.

“I was among those present when the Institute was unveiled. And I’m among many who support and love this institute and its ideals. I am giving this my all for a number of reasons.

Naturally, one of the reasons is that I receive benefits from a comparable organization in a different country. And ever since I attended that institute for a training program, I’ve been hoping that Nigeria has a comparable organization.

I was therefore thrilled to learn that this institute will be joining the All Progressives Congress through the national chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.

This is due to my recollection of winning the election to serve in the Fourth Republic’s House of Representatives around 26 years ago.

The National Democratic Institute of the United States extended an invitation to us. This is a comparable organization that is owned by the US Democratic Party.

“That institute made the decision to come here and provide us with thorough instruction on how to enter this nation’s legislature. Because there was a gap at the time.

“This nation lacked a legislative for a considerable amount of time. due of the military’s involvement in our political system at the time. Thus, nearly every detail pertaining to the legislative was overlooked.

The NDI was the one who came and gave us classroom instruction on how to behave and enter this nation’s legislature. And the lessons we learned were quite beneficial.

“Among the group of lawmakers in this nation, the training we received helped us stand out. According to him, the Fourth National Assembly’s lawmakers were extremely numerous during the legislative process.

The legislator from the All Progressives Congress (APC) urged Adebayo to provide the institute’s training to members of the parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“I am happy to be the ECOWAS Parliament’s First Deputy Speaker. Therefore, I would also like to implore you to spread your tentacles across the borders of this nation.

“Try to get in touch with us. Even I am aware that our views diverge. There are two conservative members of the ECOWAS Parliament. You will be of great assistance. He said, “Please spread your tentacles to the ECOWAS Parliament.”

According to Adebayo, the institute was founded with the goal of enhancing the political community’s ability to rule and lead.
