Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, has revealed how he was prevented from managing Nigeria’s affairs by an aide to his late mentor and former president, Umar Musa Yar’Edua.
In a Rainbow Book Club discussion about his biography “My Transition Hours,” Jonathan reportedly stated that Yar’Adua wanted to transfer the nation’s affairs to him while he was unwell and away, but a presidential assistant would not deliver the letter to the National Assembly.
The letter was issued by the late Yar’Adua when he was on a medical trip, Jonathan said, without naming the presidential assistant.

The nation lacked a president, and there was no acting president when the vice president could assume the role, according to Goodluck Jonathan, notwithstanding Yar’Adua’s serious sickness.
“The president, Yar’Adua, was a Muslim from the north,” he remarked. Obasanjo, a Christian from the South, had been in power for eight years when he succeeded. Therefore, it is clear that the Muslims in the north wanted Yar’Adua to stay in the north for at least eight years before he returned to take over for another, most likely Christian, leader.
However, the health issue arose, and that was the issue. Because of this, it was problematic to even let me act. The letter was really written while Yar’Adua was undergoing a medical examination. The President must notify the Senate and the House of Representatives in writing before the Vice President can take any action, according to the Constitution.
“That letter was drafted, but the person to whom it was delivered—I won’t name them yet—who was one of Yar’Adua’s advisers declined to deliver it to the Senate.
“Yar’Adua got so sick that he lost control of things.” There was no acting president in our nation since the president was unavailable. It is possible for you to assume some of the president’s duties as vice president.
There are two main duties of the Nigerian president. The first is that, like the prime minister, you are the head of state. They don’t require a transfer, the vice president can presume. And the reason for my actions was that we were authorizing ministerial documents at Executive Council sessions. There was no Commander-in-Chief, yet the government continued to function.
