MURIC Commends NIDCOM for Rescuing Stranded Nigerians in Central African Republic

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has received praise from Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) for saving Nigerians who were trapped in the Central African Republic (CAR) and transporting them to the secure grounds of the Nigerian Embassy there.

In a statement, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, also urged stakeholders both inside and outside of Nigeria to help NIDCOM repatriate the miners to Nigeria.

As you may remember, a few days ago, a video went viral that showed poor Nigerian miners pleading for assistance. They were stuck after reportedly being duped into traveling to the Central Africa Republic (CAR) to work at the mines.

According to reports, they were contracted for labor in that country by a Chinese resident and a Nigerian agent, who left them there for 11 months without paying them. They were scared, distressed, and incapacitated, and they had requested assistance.

Under the capable and dynamic direction of Abike Dabiri, its chairman and CEO, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) quickly intervened to rescue the stranded Nigerians.

“MURIC praises the NIDCOM head for her excellent leadership qualities. Similarly, we commend the Nigerian security forces and the personnel of the Nigerian embassy in Bangui, CAR, for identifying the miners and accompanying them to the embassy. Special thanks should be given to the embassy workers for their hospitality.

However, it won’t be over until it is. In order to finally bring the miners to Nigeria, we are pleading with both domestic and foreign parties to support NIDCOM. To help make this a reality, the Federal Government of Nigeria can enlist the help of international parties such as the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Nigerian airlines, philanthropists, and business titans.

“MURIC demands that the agent who tricked them into falling for the job scam be found right now, arrested, and prosecuted. Interpol should track down and bring the Chinese collaborator to justice. No Nigerian should have to endure this kind of suffering.
