Man, 25, arrested in Kano for allegedly killing friend

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Mustapha Ismail, over the alleged killing of his friend, Halifa Tijjani, during a dispute in Kano.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred on December 26 following a disagreement between the suspect and the deceased.
The statement said the altercation escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Mustapha allegedly stabbed Halifa, aged 24, in the back with a knife, leading to his death.

SP Kiyawa disclosed that the suspect has confessed to committing the crime and is currently being interrogated by detectives at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bompa’i.
During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to abusing illicit drugs and explained that the fight started as a verbal argument over watching a video on an Android phone.

“We were watching something when he began moving around. I warned him not to damage my phone, but he refused. We started exchanging insults. He went into the house, brought out a knife and cut me. I also picked up my knife and stabbed him in the back,” the suspect was quoted as saying.
The police spokesperson stated that upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
