The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, offices in Abuja saw a rise in tensions Monday as security officers reportedly battled with demonstrators and supporters of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
According to reports, tear gas was used to scatter the throng.
The voices of several protestors were heard stating, “We will come back; when it clears, we will come back,” in a video that our reporter referenced, indicating the group’s will to return in spite of the disturbance.
Following news of his attempted arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport last Thursday, El-Rufai had earlier arrived at the EFCC headquarters accompanied by hundreds of his fans.
