Ahmed Audi Steps Down as NSCDC Commandant-General

Ahmed Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), officially resigned from his position on Friday after reaching the required retirement age.

During events honoring the 2026 World Civil Defense Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, Audi celebrated his last day in office.

According to reports, previous President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Audi, who took office on March 1, 2021.

His departure marks the end of almost five years of leadership at the head of the paramilitary organization, which is tasked with disaster relief, civil defense, and safeguarding vital national infrastructure and assets.

The Federal Government had not yet named his successor at the time this article was filed.

World civic Defence Day, an annual occasion that emphasises the value of emergency response and civic protection, fell on the same day as Audi’s retirement.

Senior officers and coworkers gathered at the headquarters to commemorate the event, which also served as a symbolic farewell for the departing Commandant-General.

Audi was born in Nasarawa State on September 30, 1967. He has a master’s degree in public business administration from the University of Calabar and a doctorate in public administration from Nasarawa State University in Keffi.

In Nigeria’s public service, he is also a member of the National Institute (mni), a distinguished professional association.

As stakeholders await an official announcement in the coming days, focus has now turned to the Federal Government’s next step in selecting a new NSCDC leader in light of his resignation.
