Ramadan: Islamic Scholars Say Aviation Safety Depends on God-Fearing and Discipline

Prominent Islamic scholars have noted that the nation’s aviation industry will only maintain its safety status if employees and those tasked with crucial duties demonstrate discipline, follow laws and regulations, and instill a fear of God in their day-to-day activities.

As part of events to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan, Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) hosted a Ramadan Lecture and Iftar Dinner for its partners, clients, and stakeholders.

According to the ground handling company, the occasion provided a chance to deepen ties within the aviation sector while considering the principles of unity, discipline, faith, and moral behavior.

Professor Tajudeen Olalekan Yusuf, an Islamic scholar who spoke on the topic of “Ramadan: The School of Spiritual Discipline, Economic Justice, and Ethical Business Transformation,” urged employees to maintain discipline and a fear of God while performing their duties, stating that these are the values necessary for the safety and honor of a crucial industry like aviation.

“Ramadan is not merely a religious season,” he said, but rather a training ground created by Allah to hone human character.

“This is where Ramadan becomes relevant to professional life,” he continued.

Speaking on the subject of “From Ramadan to the Workplace: The Role of Taqwa in Ensuring Ethical Practices in Aviation industry Airport Operations and Cargo Businesses,” Imam Ibrahim Tirmidhee pointed out that fasting is meant to foster Taqwa, or consciousness of God, which aids people in developing self-control and moral behavior in their day-to-day lives.

According to him, activities in the aviation sector necessitate rigorous adherence to safety protocols, accuracy, and accountability. He cautioned that carelessness and compromise in professional responsibilities might jeopardize lives and interfere with operations.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SAHCO, Mrs. Adenike Aboderin, highlighted the company’s strong belief in faith, inclusivity, and respect for individuals from many religious origins in her introductory remarks.

She emphasized that SAHCO is still dedicated to creating an atmosphere that values and celebrates diversity.

She claims that Ramadan encourages introspection, selflessness, empathy, and self-control—values that are just as significant in the business sector.
