Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, rejected claims that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has divided into factions on Wednesday and stated that the party is still one cohesive political platform.
After examining a number of ongoing infrastructure projects throughout the Federal Capital Territory, Wike reportedly made the claim while speaking with reporters in Abuja.
The former governor of Rivers State clarified that disagreements amongst party members are common in politics, but he emphasized that these disagreements do not result in the party having several sections.
In response to worries over internal party fractures, Wike said that the PDP is still a single political organization despite internal disputes among certain members.
He claimed that measures to fortify the party in advance of its upcoming national convention include continuing talks to make amends with disgruntled members.
Wike stated, “I believe there is only one PDP, and it would be incorrect to suggest otherwise.”
He claims that certain members’ discontent is common in political organizations.
He pointed out that initiatives to settle disagreements and bring the party back together are already in progress.
The FCT minister went on to say that even after the planned PDP National Convention, which is set for March 29 and 30, efforts at party reconciliation would continue.
He made it clear that the convention would not interfere with continuing conversations meant to settle disputes between party stakeholders.
Wike asserts that discussion is still a crucial tactic for resolving issues brought up by disgruntled members.
The minister went on to say that the party’s primary elections are scheduled according to a strict schedule.
According to instructions published by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the terms of the Electoral Act, Wike revealed that the PDP primaries are anticipated to take place between April 23 and May 13.
He emphasized that there isn’t much space in the schedule for the party’s internal procedures to be delayed.
He continued, “This timeline leaves little room for delays.”
