In order to ensure a peaceful and safe Easter celebration, the Civic Center for National Security has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to maintain increased vigilance and a strong deployment of security around the nation.
Stressing that constant presence and persistent involvement are essential for long-term success, the center tasked the military with replicating the successes achieved against terrorists and bandits in the North to other federation states.
It stated that, given the complexity and dynamic nature of Nigeria’s security issues, the Nigerian Armed Forces should be commended for continuing to put pressure on criminal elements despite ongoing insecurity.
The committee said that armed groups’ ability to operate has been weakened by persistent offensives that target criminal enclaves, as well as by greater surveillance and quick deployment capabilities.
However, it pointed out that in order to avoid a return to widespread chaos, the current assault on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups must be strengthened and maintained.
“We urge the military to sustain and intensify its efforts to ensure that Nigerians across all regions can observe the forthcoming Easter season in peace and safety,” the center said in a statement released Thursday night and signed by Dr. Johnson Audu, its executive director.
“Replicating and extending present security advancements across the country must be the objective.”
It urged Nigerians in general and those living in the North Central region in particular to maintain their vigilance, provide reliable information to security services, and oppose any kind of cooperation with criminal organizations.
In advance of the Easter holiday, there have been more criminal attacks on communities, prompting the demand.
According to the statement, “security is a shared responsibility.” By being watchful, cooperating, and rejecting all types of criminality, citizens must actively assist the armed forces. Dr. Audu stated that a coordinated national effort is necessary to combat instability.
It also pushed local institutions, civil society organizations, and community leaders to increase grassroots involvement and foster a culture of harmony and shared responsibility.
It emphasized that maintaining recent advances and averting a return to violence depend heavily on public trust in the military.
