Nigerian Government Declares May 1 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st of May, 2026 as a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confirmed this on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo also praised Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication.

The statement read, “The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st of May, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced it on behalf of the Federal Government. He wished workers all over the country a happy celebration this year.

’The Minister commended Nigerian workers for their dedication and hard work towards national development. “Their efforts are critical to the growth and prosperity of the nation,” he said.
