The Borno State House of Assembly has denied any moves to impeach Governor Babagana Zulum.

It also ordered the Department of State Services to fish out the originators of the rumours that the assembly was making moves to impeach the governor.

The assembly gave the order during an emergency sitting at the assembly complex on Friday during which lawmakers passed a vote of confidence in Zulum.

The sitting, which was presided over by the Speaker of the house, Abdulkareem Lawan, was attended by 25 legislators.

The lawmakers said the governor had done enough to warrant the vote of confidence in him.

The speaker said, “The house has passed a vote of confidence on Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. Ordinarily, the house would not have responded to that malicious report, but we felt we should speak in order to avoid innocent members of the general public being misled into believing the totally false story, especially considering the fragile security of our state and also the giant strides recorded by Professor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration in all sectors of the economy.”

Another member of the assembly representing Mobbar constituency, Usman Moruma, told Saturday PUNCH that the state legislators had worked harmoniously with Zulum and they were in tune with the “giant strides” of the administration.

Another lawmaker, Abdullahi Abatcha, representing Gwoza constituency, said the rumour was the handiwork of mischief-makers who were bent on creating a division between the legislature and the executive in the state.
