THE Christian Association of Nigeria has advised President Buhari and other politicians in the country to learn to tolerate citizens’ criticism of policies and programmes.

The group also expressed concern over the security challenges in the nation with a warning that the Federal Government and politicians at the helm of affairs should not plunge the country into crisis.

The organisation called on the Edo State Government to rescind its decision to stop people who could not show evidence of vaccination against Covid-19 from entering the church.

The President of CAN, Samson Ayokunle, said these in a statement yesteray in Abuja titled, ‘Political leaders should learn to tolerate citizens’ criticism of policies and programmes of government’.

He said, “On the heightened situation in the country with its attendant fear and tension, CAN hereby admonishes those in political leadership of the nation to exercise caution in the way they treat observations of people and comments so as not to further plunge the nation into unnecessary crisis.

“We must avoid inciting people against leaders, ethnic and religious groups. We are only calling for restraints and balanced judgement. We must speak the truth always because it is the truth alone that can set free.”

On the move by the Edo State Government to stop people without evidence of taking Covid-19 vaccines, CAN said, “The vaccines available now in the country through the Federal Government are far below the population of Nigeria.

“We call for improved sustainable public enlightenment, synergy and strategy in the management of the situation.”
