Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says some of his colleagues have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu’s selection as Senate President for the 10th National Assembly, which is set to convene on Tuesday.

Makinde made the remarks on Monday in Ibadan, during an interdenominational thanksgiving service organized in his honour by the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Thanksgiving service was held at Oritamefa Baptist Church in Ibadan in collaboration with Fathers of Faith in Oyo State.

The governor stated that the governors met and resolved to support Tinubu’s choice, “who is a Christian from Nigeria’s South-South region.”

“We are not engaging in religious politics, but what is right is right.”

“We stood for Southern presidency; we stood for justice, fairness, and we are going to stand for equity as well,” he said.

Makinde promised to be in the National Assembly on Tuesday with his colleagues to ensure that fairness, justice, and equity prevailed in the senate presidential election.

He thanked CAN for its assistance and for organizing the Thanksgiving service.

The governor also thanked the people of the state for electing him to another four-year term and promised not to disappoint them.

He stated that his second term would allow him to complete the majority of the work begun during his first term, emphasizing that his administration would put the state on the path to sustainable development.

Makinde assured the congregation that he would do his best to guide the people of the state through the state’s governance process.

In his brief sermon, Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, the Chairman of CAN in the state, urged the congregation to focus on God’s sovereignty, saying that this was the only way to success.

Akinyemiju urged all civil and public servants in the state to always obey their master (governor) and to avoid eye service.

He also urged all Christians in the state to keep praying for the governor so that he can continue to provide good governance for the people of the state.
