The United Arab Emirates lifted the visa ban on Nigerian travelers on Monday in Abu Dhabi.
According to Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson, the lifting of the embargo was the result of a dialogue between the Nigerian president and the head of the UAE.
Tinubu praised UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his “unalloyed friendship and his resolute determination to join hands with him to fully normalize and reset to excellence, the standard of relations between the two significant countries,” according to the announcement.
According to the Nigerian government, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, concluded a historic agreement on Monday in Abu Dhabi, resulting in the immediate lifting of the visa ban imposed on Nigerian passengers.”
“Furthermore, under this historic deal, both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines will restart flying schedules into and out of Nigeria immediately and without additional delay.” As agreed between the two Heads of State, the Nigerian government would make no initial payment for the immediate restoration of flying operations via these two carriers and between the two nations.An agreed framework has been established in recognition of President Tinubu’s economic development diplomacy drive and proposals presented today by President Tinubu to his counterpart, which will involve several billions of US dollars in new investments into the Nigerian economy across multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture, and others, by the investment arms of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
“In addition, President Tinubu is glad to have successfully negotiated a joint, new foreign exchange liquidity initiative between the two governments, the details of which will be disclosed in the coming weeks.”
“In closing, the President wishes to praise the UAE President, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for his unwavering friendship and his resolute endeavor to join hands with him to fully normalize and reset the standard of relations between the two significant countries to excellence.”
