The 4th Chief of Defence Staff Armed Forces, and other Security Agencies Half Marathon in Abuja in 2023 would feature no fewer than 250 participants (male and female) and roughly 70 veterans (male and female).
During a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, AVM Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports at Defence Headquarters, disclosed this.
Marquis announced that competitors for the prized automobile prize at the Marathon would include members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security organizations.
According to Marquis, the CDS half marathon competition has been run for the past eight years in its first, second, and third iterations.
He claimed that because of COVID-19 and the military’s heightened involvement in internal security activities, the fourth edition could not take place until 2020.
The 4th edition, according to the director, will now take place on December 9 with the goal of providing a platform for professionals from security and military organizations to participate in competitive sports.
He claimed that by doing this, they would sharpen their abilities, find talent for the country, and engage with one another to maintain their professional relationship.
The championship for this year states that there will be two events: a 5 km veteran’s road race and a 21.1 km male and female race.
Thus, simultaneous competitions for individuals and groups will take place.

We should finish road marking by Thursday, based on our plans,” he stated.
The director stated that the DHQ was conscious of the disruptions that the road users along the Kubwa route might experience as a result of the sporting events.
He asked drivers to be cooperative on Thursday during marking and on Saturday during the competition.
We are therefore taking this chance to extend an invitation to all of the sport-loving citizens of Abuja and the surrounding areas to attend this year’s event.
“All arrangements have already been made to guarantee a flawless competition.
In order to ensure that this marathon is successfully completed, we are completely prepared and have medical services available for any unforeseen medical situations.
We thus hope that every one of our marathoners is as prepared as we are right now for this competition’s Star Prize.
One brand-new automobile each for the top female and male marathoners is one of the Star Awards.
He continued, “We also have cash prizes for second and third place, as well as a certificate of participation to be given to the individual and group competitors.”
Marquis cautioned competitors against doping and other forms of dishonesty during the competition and urged them to compete fairly but fiercely.
