In Jos, the capital of Plateau State, a truck toppled off an overhead bridge on Tuesday, killing three people.
It was discovered that three people were trapped beneath the car; three of them later died, and three more people were hurt.
About 45 cows were reportedly also killed in the collision, which happened between 4 and 5 a.m. on Tuesday, according to residents who had gathered at the scene along Zaria Road in Jos and confirmed the accident to Guardian Online.
According to Timothy Garuba, one of the residents who spoke with our correspondent, the accident occurred early on Tuesday when the truck was ascending the flyover bridge in the Gada Biu/Kabong village.
According to Garuba, “early this morning, a truck driver lost control on the Kabong fly-over bridge in Jos North Local Government Area.”
Around 4:30 in the morning, the truck carrying cows and people slid off the bridge, trapping several cows and passengers underneath. There are forty-five cows lying dead on the ground. Additionally, some passengers are stranded beneath the car.
According to Peter Langsan, the state’s Federal Road Safety Corps Public Education Officer, who verified the death toll, both the deceased and the injured victims had been sent to the hospital.
“Our officers and men have just concluded the rescue operation here,” stated Langsan. The articulated lorry that plunged off the bridge was transporting both cows and people. In addition to three injuries, three people died. The hospital has received them.
Langsan cautioned drivers to refrain from transporting people in cars designed for towing, attributing the disaster to speeding.
