Veteran artist and social crusader Charles Oputa, alias Charly Boy, has admitted to scamming before 419 became popular in Nigeria.
According to Wikipedia, advance fee fraud or “419 fraud” is a technique in which a sender begs assistance in facilitating the illicit transfer of money.
The scam usually involves giving the victim a sizable portion of a big sum of money in exchange for a little up-front payment, which the fraudster claims would be utilized to acquire the large sum.
If a victim makes the payment, the fraudster either creates a series of additional costs for the victim to pay or simply disappears.
Charley Boy revealed on the newest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka Nedu, that he used to swindle banks before 419 became popular.

He also revealed that his father, the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, had harmed him through religion.
“I’m spoiled by Belle because I wasn’t born till I was sixteen. My first son is nearly 53. I started scamming banks before I heard about 419, and I don’t do tiny sums. “My papa, when I was small, he harmed me with religion and religiousness,” he claimed.
Charly Boy asserted in August 2022 that marriage is a life sentence.
However, in an interview with Saturday Beats, the ‘Area Fada’ stated, “Some people are asking me how I’ve managed to be married for 45 years. It is hard job. It has not always been a pleasant experience for me. My marriage isn’t flawless, but we are a match made in heaven.
“Young people often feel that love is all they need to marry. That’s a huge falsehood. That’s what I was attempting to communicate (in my social media post). When I speak, people should ponder deeper. I’ve been married for 45 years. What remains? I could finish in another 10 or 20 years because it’s a life sentence.”
