The Presidency is optimistic that the pressure on Nigeria’s finances would lessen as a result of the elimination of gasoline subsidies and the unification of the currency rate.

This was said by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, during his Monday night Special Guest appearance on a National TV Prime Time program.

The administration “is hoping that the pressure on our finances will reduce,” he said, with the abolition of gasoline subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate.

Onanuga refuted assertions made by others that the Tinubu-led administration continues to owe federal employees salary.

He revealed that there was a problem with the disbursement platform, which the office of the Accountant General of the Federation admitted.

“The AGF office has indicated there is an issue with the platform being used to disburse the salaries,” he stated.

He said, “Yes, salaries were delayed, but all federal workers have been paid, according to a briefing I got on Monday morning.”

The President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy stated that Nigeria’s wealth is overestimated due to its low per capita income when compared to other African nations.

In response to a query regarding the status of Nigeria’s economy and the administration’s efforts to maintain stability, Onanuga said, “To be honest, Nigeria is a very, very poor country.” I believe that we overestimate our wealth.

He then on, “I think we underestimate how wealthy our nation is; we live in poverty.”
