Umar Abdullahi, the interim coach of Akwa United, has called his team’s loss to Rangers regrettable.
On Sunday, the Promised Keepers were defeated 1-0 by their hosts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Three minutes after the half, Rangers’ Kazeem Ogunleye scored the game-winning goal.
After a “brilliant performance,” Abdullahi said his team deserved more from the game.
“It is regrettable that this match yielded no results. He told the club’s media that the boys “gave it their all and that their level of commitment and determination was encouraging.”
“I’m impressed that we were able to express ourselves and create good scoring chances against a very tough team. The only problem we faced was that we were unable to score and missed a penalty that could have at least given us a point.
“I’m pleased with the caliber of players on the team, particularly in the attacking department, even though we didn’t score in Enugu. We’ve learned a lot from this game, and I want to reassure all of our supporters that we’ll play better games to win their support.
In their ten away games this season, Akwa United has not won.
After 20 games played, the former champions are still in 16th place on the table with 21 points.
The Uyo club’s next league matchup is at the Eket Township Stadium against Bayelsa United.
