Anambra Police recover AK-47 rifle, 2 loaded magazines from fleeing kidnappers

Police in Anambra State say they’ve recovered an AK-47 rifle and two magazines loaded with 50 rounds of seven.62mm ammunition.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga acknowledged this in a press launch made obtainable to reporter in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Ikenga mentioned the arm and ammunition have been from a kidnap gang, which the operatives of the command had dislodged final week Friday.

He mentioned two autos have been recovered from the kidnap gang, whereas 4 kidnap victims have been rescued when operatives of the command accosted the gang at Awgbu, Orumba North Native Authorities Space.

He mentioned that the gang escaped in a 3rd automobile, and that they have been suspected to have sustained bullet wounds.

In Monday’s press launch, he mentioned the arm and ammunition was from the fleeing gang.

He mentioned: “Whereas combing the encompassing bushes on Saturday morning, Police and the Native Vigilante recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle with double magazines containing 50 rounds of seven.62mm ammunition.

“The weapon was promptly rendered secure and brought into custody for additional investigation.

Ikenga mentioned the Command’s Particular Anti Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu has taken over the case for correct investigation as directed by the state commissioner of police.

He added that the commander of the unit has assured that it’s going to depart no stone unturned to make sure that the kidnap suspects are delivered to justice.

He mentioned 4 male victims who have been rescued final Friday have all been re-united with their households, who expressed pleasure.
