Ayade asks more governors to join APC
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has called on his counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to move along with him to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ayade spoke at the Government House, Calabar, where he held a meeting with APC leaders.
Ayade said he is now the leader of the party in his state, and all its structures are under his control.
He, however, urged all governors to similarly join him and understand his decision to join the APC.
According to him, there is dire need for governors to work closely with President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We need to join hands with President Buhari in his determination to enhance the fortunes of the county,” he said.
“I need all governors to similarly join me and understand my decision to join the APC. We need to work ahead with the president for the future and unity of Nigeria. We all need to sit on the same dining table with Mr President to save Nigeria.
“It is my responsibility to bring back Cross River to the centre in order to enhance her fortunes. I therefore formally declare myself as member and leader of APC in Cross River State.”
But the PDP said APC is embarking on a wild goose chase by going after Ayade.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan
“The APC Governors, as usual, went to Cross River as part of their jamboree.
“How can a party which has failed to hold congresses and a convention for over one year attract a committed PDP member who is at home with a structured party?
“The APC should be made aware that Governor Ayade has assured our party of his unalloyed loyalty.”
