The conflict over Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, between agents of the Department of State Services and those of the Nigerian Correctional Service has been denounced by the Nigerian Bar Association.
In a statement released by the NBA on Wednesday, its president, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), demanded that the two organisations discipline their employees for their “disgraceful conduct.”
After holding him for more than a month, the DSS brought Emefiele before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday, where he was charged with illegally possessing a firearm.
Emefiele was released on N20 million bail and remanded in the Nigeria Correctional Service’s Ikoyi facility pending the completion of his bail conditions, according to Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
