The Federal Government has urged aviation workers to shun strike and embrace dialogue to resolve disputes.
The government said incessant strike actions were detrimental to the sector.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, said this at the post May Day Conference organised by the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council of the ministry in Abuja.
While assuring the workers of the government’s commitment to meet their demands, Meribole insisted that dialogues were better than strike actions.
The Permanent Secretary said the government would meet demands of workers that are of priority.
Meribole said: “We will try within the limit of our purse to meet your demands. As we interact, we will prioritise the demands that are of priority to us and meet them.”
The chairman, Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hector Nnadi, assured the permanent secretary of the workers support.
He said the conference was organised to look at the issues that affect their members.
Nnadi said the unions were open to the government giving priorities to the needs and welfare of workers.
He said: “We know that the government cannot meet all our needs. We are aware of that but there are priority needs that we expect the government to meet when you look at the scale of preference and those are the needs we made request for.
“Every worker in Nigeria is not happy. I will not blame it on the present government. I will blame it on the government of Nigeria overtime. We are a nation that doesn’t plan and that is why we have found ourselves where we are today.
“The present economic challenge is an overflow from the decayed system over the years.”
