The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has given its Development Control Department 48 hours to destroy

The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has directed its Development Control Department 48 hours to tear down over ten duplexes situated on a green space.
During a joint inspection of unlawful constructions being built throughout the city of Abuja on Thursday, Coordinator Mr. Felix Obuah issued the directive.

According to Obuah, the duplexes were constructed without permission on a green space in Wumba District, near Apo in Abuja.
According to him, development control officials had previously requested that the developer halt all construction, including marking the structures.

However, he said that the developer disregarded the directive, even covering the building’s stop order, and carried on with the development.

According to the coordinator, the developer had forced the council to tear down all of the illegitimate structures.

“We all learned that there is no documentation, no approval, and no allocation when we asked the developer to show legal documents for the operations he is conducting.

“You can see that the job is still ongoing even after I requested him to halt.

He continued by saying, “So, all of these properties that you are seeing here are all going down.”

He said that any development that went against the Abuja Master Plan’s provisions would not be accepted by the FCT Administration.

The developer has no authority’s approval, according to Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of Development Control.

You may find proof that we marked these structures at various phases of development when you look around, even though we didn’t give the developer any approval.

“Sadly, people don’t like to accept established authority, and as I mentioned to my colleagues, Nigerians only speak the language of the bulldozers that would demolish the buildings.

“We are examining over ten buildings, some of which have roofs and some of which do not.

“So, everything here will go down in less than 48 hours,” he added, adding that development control would arrive with its bulldozers.

Additionally, Abuja city was planned in neighborhoods to guarantee harmony between environment and building construction, according to Mr. Chidemelu Echee, Director of Parks and Recreation, FCTA.

“That people would enter a place like this and begin a random destruction of the natural ecosystem without any authorization is very unfortunate,” Echee stated.

“This is a catastrophe waiting to happen because it is a component of the system’s overall global warming.”

Mr. Osilama Braimah, Director of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, stated that if the illegal structures were permitted to remain, the residents would have to live without trees and other greenery.

Speaking about the effects on the environment, Braimah clarified that the growing number of concrete structures causes the temperature to rise since they store and radiate heat.

He asserts that in order to maintain a comfortable ambient temperature, it is imperative to have specific green areas.

“Everything is covered in concrete, which inhibits percolation and increases downstream flooding.”

“We must maintain green spaces to promote percolation, recharge groundwater, and sustain healthy wells and boreholes in order to lessen this.”
