Federal government has flagged off the construction of Greater Dutse Water Supply Treatment Plant in Jigawa State awarded at the cost of N59 billion.

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engineer Joseph Utsev flagged off the work designed to provide drinking water to the state capital and its environs.

Prof Utsev said the flag-off of the project is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda which includes access to potable water and sanitation facilities for all Nigerians.

He noted that access to clean water is one of the critical needs for human survival as well as achieving a healthy society for personal and collective growth.

The minister added that the project would be completed within two years, assuring people of the state that the federal government would ensure timely completion of the project.

Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi thanked President Tinubu for approving the work, an idea conceived since 2007.

“Jigawa State has been pushing for actualising this project over the years without result, but today, God in his infinite mercy gave us a listening president who cares about the needs and plight of people. He okayed the commencement of this  project without any hesitation.

“The project, which when completed will provide over 54.4 million litres of clean water daily, will bring a lasting solution to the shortage of water supply in the capital city.”

He assured the federal government that the Jigawa State government would give all the necessary support for the smooth and timely completion of the project for the benefit of people.
